Picking a Niche: Why Focus Beats FOMO

They say "there's plenty of fish in the sea." And in business, that couldn't be more true.
New markets. New technologies. New audiences. Every week, there's a new shiny object promising scale, reach, or revenue.
But chasing every opportunity can leave you overwhelmed, distracted—and further from your goals.
“There’s plenty of fish in the sea, but don’t waste your time trying to boil the ocean. Pick a spot and lock in.”
That line hit me hard recently. Especially as I reflect on my own journey helping multicultural business owners, small-scale property investors, and startups turn ideas into something real.
The truth? The real magic happens when you narrow your focus. When you pick a lane—and stay in it long enough to learn, grow, and build real traction.
I’ve learned that picking a niche isn’t about limiting yourself. It’s about being intentional with your time, energy, and impact. You don’t need to be everything to everyone. Just something valuable to someone.
Whether it’s:
Choosing a target market
Refining your service offering
Building your brand story
Start small. Get specific. Go deep.
That’s how you create value. That’s how you build trust. And that’s how you grow—on your terms.
